If you have a new puppy and really want to start off on the right path, to avoid problems developing in the future, or if you're struggling with problem behaviours in your dog and need some help to get back on track, you're in the right place!

I'm passionate about helping dogs and their people share happy lives together because, let's be honest, if you have a dog, it's important that they are a contented, well-mannered member of the family.  If you have children too, I understand that the wonderful dreams you might have had of your dog and children growing up together does not always quite match the reality you are faced with!

Working with new puppies provides the opportunity to prevent many problems developing: I can help you teach your puppy the life skills necessary for success as a pet dog in our busy modern world.  Gun dogs breeds (eg. labradors, spaniels, pointers) and gun dog mixes (eg. cockapoos, labradoodles) living in pet homes are a particular speciality of mine.... however, I have extensive experience of working with many hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes over the years - you can see a few examples below.

Equally, if your dog has developed any behavioural problems, I can support you in addressing these and helping bring harmony back to your home.  Using kind, compassionate and scientifically proven methods, I will show you how to bring the best out in your dog and build a great relationship with them so that having a dog in your life is the joy that it should be.

I can also help potential owners in choosing the right puppy for them (through my Puppy Match service) and provide support for school dogs - my previous career as a Deputy Headteacher comes in handy here too!

My formal qualifications and professional accreditations (see 'About' for more info) are testament to my knowledge, skills and understanding in the field of canine behaviour.  Of equal importance to my success is my approachable, friendly and pragmatic approach: I take great pride in my glowing client feedback and the lives I have changed over the years.

In-person sessions are available in North Yorkshire, around the York/ Easingwold/ Boroughbridge/ Harrogate/ Wetherby areas.  Virtual support (via Zoom) is an option across the UK.  I can't wait to work with you and your dog!
Bring out the best in my dog!

Maya & Yogi

When we first got Yogi, we quickly discovered that many tips we found in dog training books didn't work for us.  With Gretta, we learned that each breed has it's own little quirks and that each dog is different; her knowledge  helped us understand our puppy better and get amazing results really quickly. I am so happy we found you!

Martin & Max

I've used other trainers before, but Gretta's approach, explanations and non judgmental/ encouraging style, made the whole process so much more beneficial and the outcomes have been great. It's already made such a difference to Max and I would thoroughly recommend Gretta to anyone - I'd give 6 stars if I could!

Before going to Gretta, I had taken our dog to someone else whose method was to dominate the dog and rule through fear.  It was a bad experience for all of us.  Choosing to work with Gretta was by far the best decision we ever made for our family; we now know how to get the best out of our dog.

Lydia & Millau

We'd struggled for months and used other behaviourists who had fallen short. Gretta was wonderful and gave us really simple, effective, practical exercises and taught us to understand what our dog had been trying to tell us all along.  Millau improved within days and continues to do so. Fantastic service, very professional and helpful.

Jennifer, Caroline & Albert

It is impossible to praise Gretta too highly!  Working with her has been the very best start we could have given our puppy; the result is our well-trained, confident, relaxed, friendly and loveable dog, Albert.   Exceptional, fast and reliable results with expert advice and assistance. Very highly recommended .

Emma & Lottie

Thanks so much for your behaviour session - it gave me loads to think about and implement. Your plan is comprehensive and good value for money. [10 weeks later] I just wanted to update you; the change in Lottie is pretty significant!  Thank you so much for your wisdom - I'm glad I waited to find the right person to work with.

Our puppy was a real challenge!  Gretta helped us understand his behaviour.  It turned out that we had a nervous dog, not a naughty one!  Changing our behaviour has helped Kane become the lovely dog that he now is.  Without Gretta, this would not have been possible: she's been amazing!

Rachel & Flossie

Today, when out walking Flossie, I met someone who said that they'd never met such a friendly terrier before. Prior to working with Gretta, this would never, ever have happened!  The progress has been almost unbelievable.  Gretta has enabled Flossie (and us!) to live a normal life - we are eternally grateful.

Hilary & Tango

I would like to say a big thank you for all you have done for Tango. Thank you for showing me how to support him in his journey to being a confident, happy dog who now chooses the right way to do things. Today, he saw rabbits and checked in with me, ignoring them!  He is a different dog from when we first worked together.

Elizabeth & Annie

After conducting extensive research, we chose to work with Gretta... she was clearly highly-qualified and we trusted that she would know what she was doing with Annie - she didn't disappoint!  Our experience of Gretta  has been positive from start to finish. Would definitely recommend to others and already have!

I can’t recommend Gretta highly enough. We booked a one to one session with Gretta and she was absolutely brilliant: she’s genuinely in a different league to most of the dog trainers we’d looked at in terms of her knowledge and experience. There are no words to describe our gratitude!

Chris & Loki

Since your visit and advice about Loki, we now have a much, much happier dog and a much, much happier human. All in all, absolutely brilliant news and it's just great to have the happy, trusting dog/ human relationship that I was after.  Just brilliant! Thank you again.

Kerry & Barley

We were very pleased and impressed with your One to One sessions with Barley, who is flourishing every day.  We've been applying your tips and he's coming on in leaps and bounds. You have a great way with dogs - this could clearly be seen with how you handled Barley who, quite honestly, was putty in your hands!

Emma & Monty

We had a fantastic session for our 8 month old dog. When Monty was about 6 months of age, he developed a lot of resource guarding behaviour which was resulting in him growling at us... and sometimes a bite!! We called Gretta who came over - it was invaluable. We would definitely use Gretta again! 10/10!
